Eighteen Brunei final year undergraduate students of Queen's University Belfast (QUB), Northern Ireland performed a khatam al-Quran ceremony recently at the Belfast Islamic Centre in Wellington Park.
The guest of honour at the event was the Director of the Brunei Student Unit (BSU), Cikgu Abdullah. Ustaz Raminey, the BSU Religious Officer, also attended the event.
Aziz Omar, one of the students who took part in the event, said the activity was one of the several religious functions organised by the Brunei students in Belfast.
"It is also meant to express our gratitude to Allah for giving us a chance to further our studies at QUB until completion," he said.
"It will not be long before we have to say goodbye to QUB and return home, hopefully after graduating with flying colours."
Some 60 Brunei students are currently studying at QUB, majoring in various disciplines including Medicine and Civil Engineering.

Leading the visitors at the informal discussion was as the Brunei Students Unit Director, Cikgu Hj Abdullah, said Aziz Omar, a QUB student who is now in his third year.
The informal discussion was also attended by two officers of Brunei Students Unit and QUB Senior International Officer Miss Rosemary McAlonan.
He said main topics discussed were a home-coming plan for students in their second year and overall academic achievement including difficulties faced in coping with their studies.
He added current issues affecting the students such as swine flu and car explosions by IRA were also touched.
Cikgu Hj Abdullah told the students that his unit received calls from concerned parents who learned such incidents from cable news such as BBC and CNN.
He advised the students not to worry so much about such incidents as the Brunei Darussalam High Commission in UK has devised action plans to help them if urgently required.
He also urged for the students not to be affected by isolated incidents such as car explosions but to concentrate on their studies especially in preparing for the coming summer examinations which are vital for those in the final year.
About 60 students from Brunei study at QUB in various disciplines including Medicines and Civil Engineering.
Aziz said on behalf of the students, he thanked the concerned officers who took time to visit them for informal discussion on general issues.
